Daily Handbasket: The Peter Rabbit Killers’ ITW Nomination Arrives!

Yay, Peter Rabbit Killers!

So happy to have the story and certificate together.

Just about a year ago, my story, The Peter Rabbit Killers, came out in Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine. It was my third story for EQMM, but my first from the magazine to be nominated for anything. It was quite the surprise when ITW shortlisted it for a 2017 Best Short Story nomination.

The July issue was a special one last year, and not only because it was part of EQMM’s 75th anniversary. Every writer in the issue had their crime fiction story start in the magazine, in the Department of First Stories. (Mine was The Erstwhile Groom back in 2001.)  I’m delighted to have a story alongside the likes of Nancy Pickard, Art Taylor, David Morrell, and Brendan DuBois.

I’m unable to attend the awards ceremony at Thrillerfest this year because I will be editing One Last Secret. But keep your fingers crossed for me!

And look for The Peter Rabbit Killers to be available as an ebook short on Amazon and at Barnes + Noble soon. (In the mean time, do check out A Paler Shade of Death, which was nominated for an Edgar. I think it’s still priced at  .99 because I lowered the price for Mother’s Day, and have been too lazy to login and change it! 🙃

It occurs to me that I’ve only written one short story this year, for an anthology that won’t be out until the fall. Would you like to see more short stories from me? I wonder…

Lots of good writing today, even though we had to make a trip to the doctor’s office in the middle of it. We feared my son might have fractured his left forearm (compliments of an overenthusiastic Hrothgar 🐶), but the doc wants to wait and see. Which is just fine with me.

More writing Thursday, and Friday, and Saturday, and…and…

Oh, did you know Wednesday was NATIONAL YOGA DAY?! I had no idea. But every day should be yoga day, yes?

He’s doing fine. Lots of ibuprofen and ice. We’ll see how it is on Monday. Off to write some more, my dear. 💜

  2. Congratulations, Laura. I’m taking advantage of your bargain price on A Paler Shade of Death. And, yes, everyday should be yoga day. If only I could remember that!

I don’t read e-books, but I imagine this is a wonderful story. And yes, every day should be yoga day. I was aware of that because of getting so many links from yoga schools. I adore yoga and began taking it in the 70s.

Hope your son is all right!

He appears to be all better. No swelling today. I’m pretty sure we won’t have to go for x-rays. Thanks for asking!
