Daily Handbasket: Really Big News Edition!

My kind of celebration–books and chocolate and champagne for everyone!

Guess what?!

Don’t worry, I’m not really going to make you guess. I’ve been dying to share the news: One Last Secret, the novel I finished a couple of months ago, has found a home with Mulholland Books in both the US and UK!!!! Emily Giglierano at Mulholland is my new editor in the US, and I can’t wait to work with her. And even before One Last Secret sold here, it was pre-empted by Droemer-Knaur in Germany for the German translation! (Okay, I know I’ve already used my !!!!s for the next 6 months in this post–but whatever!) All sales are to the credit of the fabulous, tireless Agent Susan, who is Susan Raihofer of the David Black Agency, and her very busy co-agents.

One Last Secret is a crime/suspense novel about a woman, Kimber Hannon, who returns to her house from a trip to find all the locks on her house changed, and a stranger living inside. That’s all I’m going to tell you about it right now–I want you to be surprised!

Look for the book in late 2018 or early 2019. It feels like a long time to wait, I know, but I promise you’ll see at least some stories from me in between now and then.

You know how my theme this week is that we are not meant to be alone? There were so many people who pushed me and carried me along when my energy and confidence flagged as I wrote this novel. They know who they are. I was trying something new: writing a full-length crime novel that didn’t have a single ghost or anything remotely supernatural. The change was terrifying and thrilling at the same time. My family and friends held onto my confidence for me when I wasn’t sure I could own it. And here we are, at last.

I want to thank you, too, for reading, and for cheering me on, and most of all for giving me the best reason of all to write. More soon!
