Daily Handbasket: Saturday Serendipity, 17 June 17

Every Saturday, Rain or Shine

Serendipity makes a life worth living.

Random Bits and Bobs

We burn more fat if we exercise on an empty stomach. Sounds logical, but ugh.

Gymboree was one of my number one choices for adorable kids’ clothing. How sad that they’re filing for bankruptcy.

Gwyneth Paltrow and a day with Goop. In a galaxy far, far away.

I can’t bear bittersweet dog stories, but this one touched me so deeply I had to share.

Olivia de Havilland is finally a Dame at the age of 100. What took the Queen so long, I wonder?

Coffee? Controversial? Bach wrote a Cantata about its evils. Who knew?

Books and Film

Just finished reading The Last to See Me wonderful ghost story by M Dressler. Read more and pre-order here.

My thoughts on Hulu’s National Treasure, starring Robbie Coltrane and Julie Walters. You’ll want to watch.

I don’t think there can be too many books about the Salem witch trials, do you? Here’s a list of 8 essentials, including the beloved Witch of Blackbird Pond.

I got eyebrows this week!

This is quite an array of links, Laura! Starting from the bottom, up, I agree about the Witches of Salem; my daughter had been so obsessed by the play she read in high school, that she had to go to Salem to see the ‘place.’ I couldn’t look at the link about the dog—-sob—! Olivia di Havilland had been quite a beauty in her day, but I preferred her sister Joan, although both were fine actresses. Baroque and Bach —-lovely, huh? Goop and Gwyneth Paltrow was an interesting read. I know she follows an alkaline diet and is into an ayurvedic diet ( as she is making millions on her line). I do understand the lure of grain free and the serious practice of yoga ( there is something positive about both), but on the other hand; I am also a cynic about trends, and so many doctors have been debating grain ( pro and con); frankly, it’s truly all GMO’s). I struggle with this on a daily basis—-I have an auto-immune disorder, but I also heard Gwyneth divorced her husband because he interfered with her diet/ I have respect for all who seriously embrace a certain life style in sincerity.

One of my very favorite trips with my sisters was to Salem. It was very touristy, but fun. I would definitely go back.

The line in the piece about Gwyneth glowing cracked me up. Sending big hugs to you, hon. Nutritionally the world is a very, very complicated place. I know it’s rough–hang in there.

Did you read The Goop from the Nordstrom site? Sending hugs back to you, and btw, I love the name ‘Ariel.’
