Every Saturday, Rain or Shine

Serendipity makes a life worth living.

So much grisly news this week–from behavior unbecoming by, well, lots of folks, to an overflow of politics. You can get that other places. : )

Bits and Bobs

Over fifty percent of Icelanders believe in elves, which I think is wonderful.

I feel a bit silly going gaga over the adorable in-loveness of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The latest news is about their body language–so sweet.

The world’s longest lasting rainbow. Just wow.

Sphinxes in California! Who wouldn’t want to excavate Cecil B DeMille’s 1923 “Ten Commandments” set in the dunes where it was buried?

Sex, Plagiarism, and Spyware from the NYTimes. When copyright gets ugly.

Books and Film, etc

I don’t know about you, but I find this list of theĀ Most Popular Amazon Kindle Books of All Time rather alarming. (H/T J.T. Ellison)

Best of 2017 lists are everywhere, and there are terrific crime thrillers from both sides of the pond in this Guardian list.

That funky film, 2003’s The Room, is the subject of James Franco’s latest film, The Disaster Artist. Once you start reading up on The Room, you may not want to stop.

Modern Mrs. Darcy always has great lists, but you’ll definitely want to check out her 2017 Gift Guide for Book Lovers.

This week’s post: Advent isn’t just coming soon. It’s here.

My husband pointed out that elves live in Iceland, so OF COURSE Icelanders believe in elves!

The Amazon Kindle list doesn’t surprise me. Those are the books you overhear strangers chatting about. I am very glad I read the Henrietta Lacks book (number 10). I learned so much!

      OF COURSE!

The Fifty Shades books on there cracked me up. I’m glad to hear you liked the Henrietta Lacks book. I’ve never read it. Tried to download it on Hoopla today, but they don’t have it. Piffle.

Laura, I am simply obsessed with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and I slept through 20/20 last night, when it was about this adorable pair. I did see the world’s longest lasting rainbow and have watched bits and pieces of the making of James Franco’s film. I didn’t check out the book lists above.
Have a very blessed Advent. Kyrie Eleison.

Oh, I had no idea! We don’t have a station that gets 20/20 because we no longer have satellite. Darn. But I did gobble up all the coverage about them Thursday and Friday!

Husband says we have The Room on our server, and that I need to watch it before the Franco film.

Blessed Advent to you, my dear.

Laura: It was on ABC or CBS and now I can’t find it on ON Demand. I did so want to see it, too.
